Abortion is one of the most controversial topics of all times. In 1973 a decision of the Supreme Court in the case Roe v. Wade legalized abortion in the United States, which that woman, with her doctor, could choose the abortion without restriction. This decision started many confrontations between two separate parties of opinion. Those that were pro-life and pro-choice began the brutal feud. Abortion is neither right nor wrong; it’s a matter of personal opinion in which each side can attest to. Should abortions be legal? Is ending a pregnancy before birth moral or immoral depending on the circumstances? These questions pose critical thoughts and debates. In order for women to abort an unborn child they have to destroy the embryo or a fetus causing death. I believe if there is a violent act of rape or incest then the psychological harm that is inflicted on the mother may cause further damage to the relationship of her and the child, therefore I am pro-choice. An abortion is a safe medical procedure that takes place in the first trimester. The fetus is dependent on the mother therefore cannot exist outside of her womb. Medically speaking abortions have less risk of serious complications and does not prevent the women of becoming pregnant in the future. Human life occurs at conception, but fertilized eggs used for in vitro fertilization are also human lives and those not implanted are routinely thrown away. Is this murder, and if not, than how can abortion be murder? Women have the right to have control over their body, if women are forced to continue pregnancy, than using contraception or undergoing sterilization should be considered. When teenagers become pregnant, they don’t have a promising future. They are likely to leave school, receive inadequate prenatal care, relay on public assistance, and develop health problems. The American Psychological Association found that stress was greatest prior to an abortion, and there was no evidence of afterwards.
